Chicago's Silk Road Gives Gotanda's Yohen Mid-West Premiere Sept. 18 - Nov. 2

Silk Road Theatre Project, in association with the Goodman Theatre, will present the Midwest Premiere of Yohen by Philip Kan Gotanda, directed by Steve Scott. Yohen, from September 18 – November 2, 2008. Performances will be at Pierce Hall at The Historic Chicago Temple Building, 77 W. Washington St, Chicago.

In Yohen, a divorced Japanese woman and an African American GI meet in post-World War II Japan and fall in love. After decades of struggle, they have found an accepting Los Angeles suburb to call home – but their peaceful world is changing. More than a study of clashing cultures, Yohen is the poetic, resonant story of two partners who discover that intimate relationships change with environments – and love, however time-tested, is never constant.

Gotanda has, over the last three decades, been a major influence in the broadening of our definition of theater in America. Through his plays and advocacy, he has been instrumental in bringing stories of Asians in the United States to mainstream American theater as well as to Europe and Asia. Among his other plays: After the War, Sisters Matsumoto and Ballad of Yachiyo.

Performances of Yohen will be Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 4:00pm & 8:00pm, and Sundays at 4:00pm. Tickets are $28.00 - $30.00 and can be purchased by calling 866-811-4111 or online at www.theatermania.com. Further information about Silk Road Theatre is available at http://www.srtp.org/
